Every item is individually made by me, here in my studio in Dundonald, Ayrshire.
All the hats, fascinators and headpieces are made to meet the highest standards from the highest quality Composed and Considered Designs of Hats and Millinery that we believe will not only suit you but make your personality shine with real elegance.
All of the items I create are design for you…the Individual. Please allow at least 6 weeks notice of when you require your headpiece made for, this can vary depending on time of year so if you are unsure of timescales then simply contact me directly at email@example.com. I then secure a make date for you in the diary where a deposit is required to keep this date for you, sometimes these make dates may need to be moved to accommodate others with events before you but all communication will be made directly with you in these situations.
Most of the deigns and creations are one-of-a-kind pieces, so if you want to purchase a hat (or an exact replica), please contact me for more detailed information and lead times.
Bespoke hats from Leanne Cairns Millinery are custom made, based on your individual requirements.
Ordering a bespoke hat allows you to select the perfect style, material and colour to create a show stopper piece that complements your outfit and most of all suits you.
You can place an order for your bespoke piece by contacting us via website consultation buttons, contact form, e-mail directly, or through social media pages by messaging me directly on Facebook, Instagram or Linkedin ( some of which there are links below).
To book your appointment and we will show you a selection of styles, colours and materials, guiding and advising you on your choice.
We are not a walk in shop so appointments are necessary to make sure we are available for you. No drop ins please.
Where possible, you will be asked to bring your outfit, so that we can create a perfect match for your special occasion.
Further to Covid-19 restrictions, we are now offering online consutations via the website wher you can book an appointment with The first consultation is at a cost of £40 for 40mins in-depth consultation with advice and plans to start your design and we will be happy to sketch a few ideas during the meeting.
During the first consultation, we may need to take your head measurements and a couple of pictures of your face but not always necessary, to make sure to proportion and tailor the hat on you. We will also need information about the occasion you need the hat for and a final delivery date. For detailed design sketches a further charge of 20% (non refundable and entirely the ownership and copyrighted to Leanne Cairns Millinery until the product is made and fully purchased) of the total price will be required on producing these drawings or as part of the quotation.
When agreed on style, material and colour, You can also opt in for detailed design sketches at an additional cost if you are having difficulty imagining your final design. These designs will be a rough translation and as these are evolving pieces the final design may alter as is the skills of Leanne to make judgement on the final aesthetics based on varying aspects of what wil suit you best and flatter you the most.
You will then be required to pay a deposit payment (non-refundable if cancelled during the making stage) equal to 40% of the initial estimated price to secure the contract and allow us to continue making your millinery.
Note that initial budget for bespoke hats may vary during the making process, but any change will be previously discussed and agreed between the two parties.
After receiving the deposit, we will do an estimated cost and written quotation and on agreement with this e-mailed quotation, we will start to make your hat on the agreed make date. Please allow up to 3 weeks for any bespoke hat to be delivered. If you need your hat very quickly or last minute, I will be happy to give it priority, when possible, but an extra fee will be added (20% of the final price).
You will be constantly updated throughout where necessary, so if there are any changes that you require during the making process, I will be able to arrange them. Note that any major alteration, change or addition of materials, will affect the initial quote.
To obtain a perfect final result, we suggest at least one fitting session before the final delivery.
In the exceptional circumstance that you come to us with less time as requirements stated above and we manage to fit you in to create, you have to be aware that all materials discussed may not be available or able to be ordered and arrive in time, in this case we shall endeavour to do the best we can to create you something in the given time, if this is not to your satisfaction you must remember we have went above and beyond to accommodate the circumstance and will therefore not be held to account for dissatisfaction from you in this instance, the policy of 24hrs to complain after receiving your piece is compliant in these cases and after that costs, minus consultation fee, design fee and 40% non-refundable deposit, will not be considered for refund.
When purchasing Leanne Cairns Millinery online via our website and online Hat Shop or via Millinery HUT, we have in place various shipping and payment processes to make it easy for you to buy our products easily. These will be easy to follow to get one of our listed designs and all charges for Postage and Packaging will be noted as you proceed to checkout.
As all our pieces are unique one-off designs on here only one of each design can be purchased and shipping fees are given to you at checkout. If you do like the design but require one in a different colour, size etc, then you need to contact us via terms stated above for bespoke products to discuss your requirements.
We use courier services to post your products and costs are based on weight and size, therefore hat boxes are added to cost and depending on quickness of delivery and postal code required all postage will be calculated at checkout.
Also worth noting when purchasing through third parties such as MillineryHut and WooCommerce, their Terms and Conditions are totally separate from these and must be applied with on their terms and agreement with you the customer. We only use these platforms as a route to market and therefore we must comply with their terms and agreements too.

Refund & Exchanges
All our creations are 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Alterations of any bespoke hat made by us are free, though you may have to pay shipping both ways.
All purchased products bought online will have no free alterations (these may be considered at further cost though) and all refunds will be discretionary to us, Leanne Cairns Millinery on consideration of reasons for return and whether all timescales noted further on are adhered to. If purchased through MillineryHUT you must contact through them for any issues for return or refund and adhere to their Terms and Conditions.
All hats ordered contacting me directly, following the customer’s requests (colour, size, etc), are to be considered bespoke “made to order”. We do not offer return or full refund for hats made using this service. A partial refund will be honoured in exceptional circumstance where the item is proved to be faulty within 24hrs of purchase.
In the exceptional situation where we agree on making a replica of our own designs (when possible) of a one-of-a-kind hat, that piece is then considered bespoke, and it cannot be returned/refunded again unless a fault can be proved 24 hrs after purchase.
Bespoke hats, fascinators and headpieces are not returnable nor refundable unless proof of fault can be shown, but the same alteration policy applies (again you’re liable for shipping).
Please be aware that colours will vary between monitor screens. If you are unsure of the shade, please ask for a colour swatch.
Once you approve the colour swatch, I will then start making your hat. If you do not request a colour swatch, then you may not return a hat because you are unhappy with the shade of colour. I pride myself on colour matching to the best of my ability, but materials may vary in the dying process and not always be exact.
If an item returns as an unclaimed package, I will not be responsible for any shipping fees and the item will be re-listed, unless the buyer asks for the item to be reshipped at their own expense.
We are unable to accept returns on items that have been used and worn, unless you can prove that there is a fault on inspection when collecting or delivery. All products are hand sewn, hand dyed and finished so you may find some loose threads or patches of discolouration depending on the materials used. Feathers may be naturally shaped or trimmed by hand and natural materials have natural flaws in the weave such as Sinamay, Silk Abaca and Jinsin. We double check all my workmanship before allowing collection/delivery from/to clients and appropriate photos are taken of the product. These items should be returned within 48hrs of collection /delivery providing they are unworn with all labels intact and in the original packaging. All returns will be subject to a 5% restocking fee.
You must notify us of your intention to return the item within 24 hours of collection/delivery.
Once we have received the returned item and are satisfied with its condition, we will refund the cost of the item to you via your credit card or through a bank transfer, this amount will exclude the consultation fee, design fee and non-refundable 40% deposit and any postage costs.
Please note that you as the purchaser are responsible for the piece whilst in transit until it is returned to Leanne Cairns Millinery. We therefore advise that a ‘signed for’ service is used.
Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that you have supplied the correct head size measurement when ordering. Details of how to measure your head will have been given at enquiry stage and are available on the website.
In the unlikely event that a piece is found faulty to you we will cover all the costs involved in returning it.

We are able to exchange items of bespoke designs and those visiting our studio. For all online orders we cannot do a direct exchange but can only cancel and refund according to terms and agreement of sale.
Bespoke order items can be exchanged within 48hrs of collection/delivery providing it has been unworn with all labels intact and in its original packaging. You must notify us of your intention to exchange your item within 24 hours of collection/delivery.
Additional postage fees incurred as a result of exchanging will be the responsibility of the purchaser.
Please read our terms and conditions before making your Hire purchase.
Prices for hire range from ￡45-￡150 for a 2 day period or ￡55- ￡165 4 days with postage out with the local area. A further £30-50 cash/ bank transfer deposit is required to secure your hire on collection but will be returned to you on delivery back to the studio if all is in good condition. I advise for you to take photos to make sure you are happy with the product on delivery before taking home and point out any flaws before hiring with me. At Leanne Cairns Millinery you will enter into a signed contract of agreement before you take the product away, with dates and times of collection and drop off.
I can post hired hats to wherever you live by Parcel Force delivery, subject to the order being made before 12 noon for 48 hr delivery. Postage is added to the hire charge. We offer a before 12 noon carriage option and are also able to deliver on weekends, surcharges apply. Collection date can be arranged between hours of 8am- 8pm from your chosen address or you can opt to take to local Post Office, with the packaging made by you and the enclosed slip attached for return address. If the hat is lost or damaged then the amount payable is the wholesale value of the hat plus an extra hire charge.
The hire fee is for two day/wear only unless stated otherwise. Hats or fascinators seen or photographed on any other person will incur the hire fee again.
Once a hat has been taken/posted for hire it is considered a hire even if it has not been worn. There will be no refund.
Your hat may be fitted with hypoallergenic tape across the headlining. This protects the hat or fascinator from make-up stains,
please do not remove it..
The agreement states the value to replace the particular item if it is lost, stolen or damaged (including any dents, loss of decoration or water damage).
The value must be paid to Leanne Cairns Millinery by the customer should this happen.
Hire duration is for two days local collection and delivery or 4 days for out of local area, if the hat is not returned within this period, an additional hire charge may be made.
Cancellation of the hire of a hat must be made no less than two weeks before the event in order for a refund to be issued.
Care should be taken when wearing a hat/headpiece in the rain and should be kept under an umbrella at all times as all hats/headpieces are very vulnerable if subjected to rain.
Due to Covid
Further to Covid-19 Restrictions and safety measures, alternative methods of delivery and pick up will be organised within the risk assessment guidelines we have in place for insurance purposes.
All our products are thoroughly steam cleaned and place out of the way of public contamination before being delivered to you. If hiring and returning to us, we suggest a minimum of 48hours since wearing to be left untouched within a box supplied before being returned, where we will steam clean and sanitise all product again with a further 48 hours rest, untouched before hiring out again. If you attend our studio we will also ask you to wear a mask, sanitise your hands and keep within the 2m social distance rules and boundaries as marked out within our premises.
All hygiene practices must be adhered to by Leanne Cairns Millinery staff and all clients. We will send a list of checks for you to comply with these prior to your appointment and will ask you to provide all details for relevant track and trace measures as per .GOV website.
Trade Descriptions Act
All products are individually hand-made and whilst we make every effort to maintain consistency in size, form and colour some small variations may occur. We pride ourself on maintaining the highest possible standard of work and finish.
All payments are made via stripe for credit or debit card, bank transfer or cash. Should you wish to make alternative arrangements please contact us.
Online Purchasing is via third party online platforms and their Terms of Payment will be clearly stated on buying.
A non-refundable deposit is required prior to commencement on all bespoke orders with the remainder payable on collection or before delivery.
All prices are made in GB £ sterling and are subject to change without notification.
Please note that as the purchaser you are responsible for all Customs fee and duties.
Items sent within the United Kingdom are sent using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Allow 2-5 days for delivery.
Please contact me for postage prices and delivery times if you are ordering from outside the UK.
All services will require a signature.
Should you require an alternative postage method please contact me to discuss your requirements further.
Please note that we are not responsible for any delays in delivery incurred due to adverse weather conditions, industrial action or circumstances beyond our control once the item is with the delivery providers. In the event that such situation should occur prior to postage that we are aware of, I will contact you the purchaser to make alternative arrangements and so you are not delayed.
